King Jesus

Posted by: jmueller   in Bible Verse

Does Jesus want to be called King?

I searched the scriptures for references to ‘King’ and gleaned the portions of scripture that appear to answer this question.  This is by no means an exhaustive list.

  • John 18:36-38
  • John 1:48-50
  • Luke 19:37-39
  • Matthew 25:39-41
  • John 12:14-16
  • Luke 23:1-3
  • Revelation 19:15-17
  • 1 Timothy 1:17
  • Revelation 17:13-15
  • Revelation 15:2-4
  • Matthew 3:1-3
  • Matthew 4:16-18
  • Matthew 6:33
  • Matthew 7:21
  • Luke 1:32-34
  • Luke 23:42
  • Ephesians 5:5
  • Colossians 1:12-14
  • 2 Timothy 4:1
  • Revelation 5:10
  • Revelation 11:15

In looking at this, there are a lot of places in scripture that talk about the kingdom of God.  Jesus is also said to be coming into His kingdom.  Every kingdom has a king, so by reasoning this out, Jesus must be King of His kingdom.

And even the title that was given Him is the Christ.  That title alone is from the Greek and means ‘anointed’.  A king is anointed as the ruler.

I believe that the answer is a resounding YES!  I think it the correct way to think of Him.  The ruler of my heart and soul.  The ruler of the entire world.  I long to bow before Him and kiss His feet and worship Him in the way that he deserves, because in this sinful, fallen state, I will never be able to give him the praise and worship He deserves.
